13 August 2016. Chelmsford City 1 - Dartford 1. Goal for Dartford: Luke Wanadio. Goal for Chelmsford City: Shaun Jeffers. Att: 780. Chelmsford City play at the Melbourne Stadium, which has an athletics track surrounding the pitch, and with a long jump track too, it makes the main stadium seating well removed from the play on the pitch. Stands behind each goal, however, give a much closer view. Chelmsford City FC was formed in 1938, although the town was not granted City status until 2012! Their mascot is a parrot - a contrived rhyme for Claret, the nickname of the team.
Former England International Jimmy Greaves played for Chelmsford City briefly in 1977 and described it as "enjoyable ... but half-hearted" and after just a few months there he "hung up my boots to concentrate on my sole interest in life. Drinking".* He played for Tottenham Hotspur and is still their highest ever goalscorer.
