12 November 2024. Hashtag Utd 3, Dartford 3.
Dartford bounced back twice to earn a well-deserved point in a six-goal thriller against Hashtag United, as 300 supporters braved the cold under the floodlights at Parkside.
The Darts were the better of the two sides in a rather scrappy first-half, as they created a few good opportunities. The first of which came in the 6th minute, when Denzelle Olopade fired straight at goalkeeper Jack Giddens. Sam Odaudu then fired narrowly over the Tags’ crossbar (8), before Jacob Marsden cut out Toby Aromolaran’s effort four minutes later. Ade Yussuf was unable to test Giddens with his 20th-minute effort, before Odaudu was denied by the shot-stopper three minutes later after good work by Jeremiah Pinder.
The Hashtag goalkeeper was certainly the busier of the two during this half, as the visitors tried to find the opening goal. Olopade came close once again, only to find Giddens in the way (26), before Ady Pennock’s men finally made the breakthrough eight minutes before the break. It was Sam Odaudu who pounced to score his third goal of the season. Having received the ball from Samir Carruthers, the left-back then got beyond Jermaine Anderson to fire a left-footed drive beyond Giddens to give Dartford a deserved half-time lead.
The second forty-five was an entirely different game, somewhat chaotic in fact, as the hosts came out with all guns blazing.
Yet despite winning a few early corners, it was the visitors that almost scored first to double their advantage… but Odaudu’s tidy effort cannoned back off of Giddens’ crossbar (59). Sadly, after having been fouled on too many occasions during the last hour (and no Hashtag player being booked, I might add!), Samir Carruthers had to leave the field with an injury to be replaced by Olly Box (61). The Darts would go on to make two more changes in personnel, as both Samuel Okoye and Gabe Campbell came on for Tyler Christian-Law and Ade Yussuf respectively (90). Meanwhile, the hosts made their first swap in the 56th minute, as Harrison Day made way for Josh Osude. That would be followed by Luke May-Parrott coming on for Misha Djemaili (61), Matthew Wooldridge coming on for Jermaine Anderson (70), and Darren Foxley replacing Toby Aromolaran (79).
As we return to the action, we arrive at a completely different game than before. It all begins with Toby Aromolaran, who levelled the score after chipping the ball over Jacob Marsden in the 64th minute. That was followed by Josh Rusoke’s close-range free-kick going straight through the crowded box and into the back of the net to turn the game on its head (72). The hosts’ lead didn’t last long though because, Denzelle Olopade ran into the box before scoring his second goal of the season to level the score (75). The Tags retook the lead with just three minutes remaining, after Ayo Olukoga got on the end of a free-kick (87), before Dartford responded with a goal of their own just two minutes later! Olly Box was the goalscorer this time, as he arrived first to fire home his fourth goal of the campaign after Ade Yussuf’s initial strike was parried by Jack Giddens (89). The hosts thought they’d stolen all three points late on when they had the ball in the back of the net, only to see it chalked off for a foul on Marsden (90+3), before Sakariya Hassan missed a glorious opportunity from close range after a truly fabulous save by the Dartford number one (90+7) earned the visitors a valuable point in what was a truly chaotic game.
