29 April 2017. Poole Town 2 (Brooks, Devlin), Dartford 3 (Pugh, Murphy, Noble).
The Dolphins went in to the final match off the season knowing they would not be allowed in the play offs even if finishing fifth due to their ground (Tatnam Farm) grading appeal being unsuccessful. Consequently Poole Town are seeking approval for a new £2m home in Bearwood.
Dartford were only the second team to complete the double over Poole with 2 injury time goals to snatch a late victory. The first half was a fairly even affair with Dartford taking the lead when Poole’s defence switched off when Hayes crossed from the right with Pugh racing in to slam home from 1 foot out on 9 minutes. Poole equalised 0n 25 minutes when Brooks rose highest from Devlin’s corner for a simple headed goal. Poole then took the lead on 39 minutes from Devlin’s low free kick from the edge of the box which evaded everyone. Hutchings made a good save from Pugh late in the half when he broke free. The second half started quietly but ended dramatically. Dartford pushed for the equaliser and a few shots went just over and some excellent saves by Hutchings. Then for Poole on 80 minutes Brooks broke free and inside the box was set to finish when brought down but the referee did not award a penalty and instead booked Brooks. This seemed the most blatant penalty and all the fans were completely mystified by the referee’s decision. This proved costly for Poole when in added time Dartford had yet another corner which Murphy squeezed in at the near post. Then with almost the last kick of the game the ball fell to Noble to sweetly strike in to the net to give Dartford all 3 points.
